Payslip Houses

In this series I have started to develop the payslip houses after a long summer without having any art materials or supplies left.

My boyfriend Jamie who at the time was working as a scaffolder got paid weekly. These payslips started to follow me everywhere within his house. I thought about the underlying issue around them.

  • This included being a student and paying uni fees of £9,000 a year.

  • I'm among a generation where i'm the best educated but the most unemployed.

  • I'm of the generation who has the highest levels of stress and depression.

  • I'm financially fragile

  • Difficulty securing a job at all

Personally to me I wanted to show something that speaks to MY generation. A generation who are fighting so hard for things that are much out of our reach. A payslip is recognisable to everyone but it's become apparent to me it's who engages with the work and reflects on the now, the work will speak to the most.
